Low to moderate installation sound levels inhabit the daily work flow in the suite. The sound is pleasantly present and noticeable, but not obtrusive. Because the audio came from the space and fits it exactly, the installation enhances the presence of the space itself while providing a rich but subtle backdrop.

Enigmatic in character, the sound of GATHERING SKY is also pursuable as part of the space, as notions of place and subtle sensory input are re-vitalized in a relaxed manner.

The executive offices of Eyebeam Atelier in Brooklyn, NY were perfect for this project in site-specific resonant ambience. Late one evening in May, with the help of Jonah Peretti, the Director of R & D, I recorded the silence (room tone) in their penthouse suite. The space features a striking angled ceiling with a skylight that runs the 75-foot length of the room.

The concrete floors and glass surfaces of the structure provided excellent resonance and the room tone recordings were rich in site-specific harmonic overtones.

GATHERING SKY, planned for a two-month run, the installation remained in place for more than two years until Eyebeam moved their offices in 2004.
